Um what's the story behind this frequently used rap phrase?

"this Uzi weighs a ton" or some variation of that. I've heard it so many times by various artists including eminem in public enemy #1, lupe fiasco in letting go, 2pac in god bless the dead, and several others. Is it just coincidence or is there something I'm nt getting here?
