Diffusion Capacity Elevated? Any pulmonary experts. techs ?

Diffusion capacity is the ability of the capillaries (small blood vessels) flowing in and around your lungs to "pick up" oxygen from the small sac like structures in your lungs. These capillaries then carry the oxygen to larger arteries and tissues. Between these capillaries and the sac like structures, called alveoli, is a membrane. Some people with diseases like cystic fibrosis have a thick membrane, and therefore a diminished diffusion capacity. You may have very healthy lungs, but a thinner than normal membrane. This is nothing to worry about. Your lungs are doing a wonderful job and your tissues are well oxygenated. There are many other values on a function test that are much more important and those are all good.
